Climates - can a movie have nothing happen, and have bad actors, and still be a good movie. [Jan. 22nd, 2007|12:12 pm]

“Climates”, or “Iklimler”, directed, written, and staring by Nuri Bilge Ceylan as well as Ebru Ceylan, is a Turkish movie, about an aging, self absorbed professor and his failing relationship with his girlfriend. “Climates” answers the age old movie question; can a movie have nothing happen, have bad actors and a bad script and still have a good movie?

The Italian or Italianetz, is directed by Andrei Kravchuk, and written by Andrei Romanov, is the story of a Russian orphan child who will do anything to find his biological mother, even if it costs him everything. This movie gives Russian film makers a good name!

Eragon, The Perfect C [Dec. 18th, 2006|12:11 am]
I waited with baited breath for the climax of this film. I was left to finish myself off because there was no cinematic orgasm. The film at the end of movie didn’t wrap anything up for the audience and leaves the sneaking suspicion that there will be a sequel.

For Your Consideration [Dec. 1st, 2006|08:07 am]
This movie does not blow a goat, it in fact blows several goats. “For Your Consideration” is worth seeing if you are suicidal but unsure you can go through with it and need a little push over the edge or if you have someone to make out with.

“For Your Consideration”, directed and co-written by Christopher Guest and co-written by Eugene Levy is a comedy based in Los Angeles about a bunch of washed up “C List” stars who find out there is internet Oscar buzz about the ridiculous movie “Home for Purim” they are currently filming. The buzz makes the actors and everyone else connected to the film lose their minds.
Find out why?Collapse )

This is a test run, but feel free to review it. [Nov. 22nd, 2004|09:13 pm]

Title: Dig!

Director: Ondi Timoner

Writer: Ondi Timoner

Producer: Ondi Timoner

Starring: Anton Newcombe, and Courtney Taylor

Release Date: 10/08/04

Synopsis: DIG! is the feature-length documentary shot over seven years about musicians Anton Newcombe, leader of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, and Courtney Taylor, head of the Dandy Warhols, star crossed friends and bitter rivals. From the moment they met, The Dandy Warhols and the Brian Jonestown Massacre quickly bonded over a desire to not conform to the tastes of the recording industry. Yet, the bands’ choices over how to express their creativity and originality in a profit-driven industry eventually put them at irreconcilable odds.
Culled from 1500 hours of footage and narrated by Courtney Taylor, DIG! follows the underground giant Anton Newcombe, unearthing him to be an important yet largely unnoticed artist of our time.
In 1996 Anton Newcombe and his band the Brian Jonestown Massacre - who in a decade independently released 11 albums, 3 recorded in one year – are hell-bent on staging a revolution in the music industry.  They are convinced their friends, the Dandy Warhols, will join them to create a united front.  But Anton’s creative psychosis takes him to the most remote areas of the human mind to find his original art, and as a result, he destroys every opportunity for financial success.
While tracking the destructive path of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, DIG! also accompanies the more ‘well-adjusted’ Warhols through their leader Courtney Taylor, as they navigate the corporate sea, trying to maintain their creative edge while starring in mega-budget music videos and entertaining crowds in the tens of thousands.
DIG! is about both musicians’ love and obsession, gigs and recordings, arrests and death threats, uppers and downers - their choices between art and industry, which unfold with the passage of time.

Update on Movie_talk [Nov. 12th, 2004|08:49 pm]

[mood |dorky]

So far on the Moderation end of things we have myself, sostark, fireuzer, pradagirl, and travelsizedoug. I'd like to get one more female moderator if possible.

Here's what is needed to be done:
1) Community layout.
2) Open discussion between the mods to get a final version of the rules.
3) Work up a system or template for the movies posts so as to include the movie poster with a brief synopsis. Possibly star, director and producer listed? I think the biggest thing is making sure that we can have a visual consistency on each post.
4) Banners, large, medium, and a few of those annoying mini blinky ones just to be trendy. The more the better, but I think that should fit with what ever the layout will end up being.
If anyone has anything to add that I have missed please use this post to toss your 2¢ in. And by anyone I mean every one.
